East Cooper CARTA Riders Group Promoting Second Sunday with More Stops

For those of you who have been wishing and waiting for an easier way to get downtown for Second Sunday on King, the wait is now over! The East Cooper CARTA Riders Group is encouraging Mt. Pleasant residents to head to downtown Charleston for Second Sunday on King Street using the CARTA #40 bus. 

Stops on the route include: Wando High School, Mt. Pleasant Hospital, Oakland Plantation, Towne Center, Wando Crossing, Houston Northcutt and Meeting Street at Mary. The #40 busses run every two hours, the first one departing Wando High School at 9:38 AM. The last bus leaves downtown at 6:30 PM. There will be more than enough opportunities for Mt. Pleasant residents to hop on the #40 enjoy an awesome Second Sunday full of shopping, activities, and delicious eats. See you there!

Charleston Mercury Cartoonist, Nancy Lucas, Releases First Mystery Book for Kids

Charleston Mercury cartoonist, Nancy Lucas, has written and illustrated her first book in a series of five for her new Springer Spaniel Mysteries. In the first book, In The Missing Boston Terriers of Smith Street, Scout searches the Charleston peninsula’s storm drains and sewers to rescue two dogs. Along the way he encounters a terrifying boa constrictor, some unkind wharf rats and a chatty possum that’s obsessed with food. Don’t forget to pack your sense of humor and some extra palmetto bug snacks for this adventure!

The second book in the series, A Ghostly Tail, will be available soon. Scout and his friends persuade a ghost dog bully that all is well in Harleston Village and there is no need to frighten others.

The first book is currently available at the Preservation Society Bookstore and Nancy Lucas will be there during October’s 2^nd Sunday on King Street to sign. Stop by the bookstore at 147 King Street in the Lower King Antique District to pick up a copy. 

New Flavors from the King of Pops Featuring Honey from Savannah Bee

Get ready for some more fun popsicle flavors from the King of Pops featuring honey from King Street’s very own Savannah Bee Company. King of Pops is known for using local and organic ingredients to create delicious, healthy treats and it doesn’t get more local than this!

We can’t wait to sample some new flavors featuring Savannah Bee’s honey during October’s 2nd Sunday on King Street. Can’t wait that long? You can also find King of Pops at at The Bicycle Shoppe at 288 Meeting, at 110 East Ashley at Folly Beach, or at the Robot Candy Co. at 322 King Street.

Croghan's Jewel Box will be open today during Second Sunday on King Street today. Stop by and shop their beautiful selection of jewelry- they open at 1pm.

2nd Sunday on King Street is September 11, Followed by a Special 9/11 Tribute at Marion Square

 2nd Sunday on King Street, Charleston's most popular shopping, dining and cultural event, continues September 11, 2011 from 1:00-5:00 PM. More information about 2nd Sunday food, musicians, events and activities can be found at www.2ndsundayonkingstreet.com.

This month, 2nd Sunday will be followed by a special City of Charleston 10-year anniversary commemoration concert in remembrance of September 11, 2001. The free concert takes place at Marion Square from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. It will be in partnership with Operation R&R, a non-profit organization designed to provide service men and women an opportunity to reconnect with their spouses and children on a vacation when they return from deployments Iraq and Afghanistan.

Reflective and patriotic music will be performed by the Charleston Community Band, Charleston Men's Chorus, Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, College of Charleston, the Citadel and others. The event will honor and remember our first responders, military service men and women and those who perished in all of the events on September 11, 2001. Attendees should bring blankets or folding chairs for seating on the lawn at Marion Square. Free parking is available at the Gaillard Parking Garage on Calhoun Street.

At September's 2nd Sunday on King Street, walk on down to the Rebekah Jacob Gallery to celebrate their Fall season! From 1-5pm stroll through the gallery's newly renovated space and enjoy some amazing new works by Tim Hussey!
