KOBOLD Acquires Heinrichs

KOBOLD logo-1 HeinrichsLogo The Kobold Group, represented by PEMCO in the Northeast U.S., has acquired instrument manufacturer Heinrichs Messtechnik GmbH of Cologne, Germany according to an article published by ControlGlobal.com. Heinhrichs Messtechnik is known for manufacturing high-accuracy and custom coriolis, variable-area and magnetic flowmeters as well as density and level measuring instruments.

HeinrichsCollage Heinrichs was founded nearly 100 years ago and was one of the pioneers of Coriolis flow measuring techniques. Today Heinrichs has one of the premier manufacturing and calibration facilities in Europe and is renowned for its ability to manufacture flowmeters in numerous special alloys with flow and pressure ratings that exceed the competition.

Heinrichs has manufactured special-application Coriolis meters with mass flowrates up to 2,200 metric tons/hour and line sizes up to 16 inches. This acquisition adds further depth and breadth Kobold’s already extensive product offering.

The Kobold Group is headquartered in Hofheim, Germany and has manufacturing operations and sales offices in over 30 countries worldwide.

The Heinrichs products will be offered for sale in North America by Kobold Instruments Inc. located in Pittsburgh, Pa. Further information on the Heinrichs product offering can be viewed at www.koboldusa.com or www.heinrichs-mt.com.

Brooks Instrument Acquires Key Instruments

Brooks logo Brooks Instrument a world-leading flow measurement and control provider, represented in the northeast by PEMCO, announced that it has acquired Key Instruments, Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Key Instruments is a flow meter manufacturer based in Trevose, PA which offers precision machined acrylic flow meters, molded plastic flow meters, glass tube flow meters, electronic flow meters, and flow control valves for medical, industrial, water, chemical and laboratory applications.

“Our companies are an excellent strategic fit,” stated Jim Dale, Chief Executive Officer of Brooks Instrument. “Key Instruments offers an entirely complementary product line and broadens our reach in the low flow market place.”

PEMCO will represent the line of Key Instruments in the northeast. Key Instruments was founded in 1959 as a manufacturer of injection-molded parts for various industries. In the 1970s they began to focus exclusively on the manufacturing of high-grade flow meters. Since then, they have served their customers to exceed expectations for every application, providing exceptional service and quality, along with innovative flow solutions. Key Instruments is an FDA registered medical device manufacturer and also provides NIST traceable flow calibrations for many of its products.

“This is an exciting time for Key Instruments,” stated Don Frick, President of Key Instruments. “By combining forces with Brooks Instrument, the Key Instruments brand will be positioned to better serve the competitive global environment.”

Brooks Instrument plans to maintain the Key Instruments brand name and facility in Trevose, PA.

PEMCO Engineers Spec Monitors for Williams College Steam System

Chapel Process and Energy Measurements Corp. (PEMCO) has received a substantial order to monitor steam usage at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. The order includes flowmeters to monitor steam throughout the widespread campus. Williams’ goal is to understand the pattern of steam usage and take steps to reduce demand and thereby save energy. Steam is used for space heating, domestic hot water and other campus requirements.

The equipment selection and implementation was made in a cooperative effort with Four Seasons Heating and Cooling of Dalton, MA. Four Seasons is the prime contractor on the project and will install all devices specified by PEMCO engineers.

A_accelabar Due to the complexity of the steam piping, a mixture of steam condensate and direct steam measurement will be utilized. Condensate will be monitored using Lincoln gravity flow meters or Istec high temperature turbine meters for pumped condensate. Where direct steam measurement is possible, a unique meter manufactured by Veris Inc. of Boulder Colorado will be used. The Veris Accelabar is extremely accurate over a wide range of flow and requires no straight run of piping.

PEMCO Builds Solution for Bradford Soap Company

The Bradford Soap Company of West Warwick RI has been making soap by the traditional full-boiled kettle process for 125 years. Today modern technology guides the process, but the experience and skills of their soap makers are still critical to achieving the superior results kettle processing makes possible. When they required engineering assistance to monitor levels they chose Process and Energy Measurements Corp. (PEMCO)

Bradford needed to monitor the level in 19 tanks at their production facility. The tanks were in groups of four to six and had a combination of solids and liquids product. Plus, they needed get the data from the level controls onto their Ethernet backbone so multiple personnel could view the data. Additionally, the company wanted to monitor the tanks based on mass, not level, with the ability to correct for different density materials in the tanks.

Multirangergrou PEMCO engineers designed a system that utilized the Multiranger 200 Ultrasonic Level Control by Siemens. The Multiranger will handle all the distances required and had a modbus RTU output which allowed multiple data point outputs.

WipsDR300b PEMCO engineers used the Siemens DR301 wireless transmitters for each group of tanks/level controls. Because there were no Ethernet nodes close to the tanks, this feature saved Bradford the substantial cost of wiring to each device. The DR301 wireless radio allows multiple level control input and transmission of the all modbus data for each level control. The master radio output through a serial to Ethernet converter directly to the company’s Ethernet backbone. Bradford’s engineers designed an intranet site for personnel to view the data they needed and allows for calculation of mass based on differing density of product.

PEMCO Appointed Exclusive East Coast Rep for ECD

Process and Energy Measurements Corp. PEMCO, has been appointed the exclusive representative for Electro-Chemical Devices (ECD),a leading manufacturer of Analytical Instrumentation. ECD, a California company, manufactures equipment to measure PH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and selective ion.

Electro-Chemical Devices, Inc. (ECD) is a recognized leader in industrial process instrumentation: sensors, controllers, transmitters, analyzers and electrodes. ECD's products measure pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen (DO) optical and amperometric, turbidity, oxidation reduction potential (ORP) REDOX, resistivity, selective ion (pION) for fluoride, calcium, sulfide, and sodium. ECD also offers control systems for boiler blow down & cooling towers.

The company has recently introduced the Triton Optical Dissolved Oxygen sensor utilizing fluorescence quenching technology and the TR8 Turbidity Analyzer. The turbidity analyzer utilizes a nephelometric sensor.

PEMCO Engineers Completing Project at NY Times

NY_Times Process and Energy Measurements Corporation (PEMCO), Danbury, CT is in the final stages of a multi-year project supplying chilled water energy meters for the recently constructed NY Times Building at 620 8th Avenue in Manhattan.

The project involved supplying approximately 75 PEMCO 1232 chilled water energy meters for chiller plant performance monitoring and control as well as the billing of chilled water to tenants for personnel and equipment cooling.

PromoImage_CompanyVideos3 The meters in this project utilized Siemens non-intrusive ultrasonic flow and energy meters as well as a hybrid meter designed by PEMCO’s engineers also using Siemens ultrasonic technology for the flow measurement. PEMCO’s service department provided start-up and commissioning service for all of the meters.

The NY Times Building was named one of the "Best Tall Building in the World" in November by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). The projects control and instrumentation system was designed by Flack & Kurtz, an engineering firm with offices in New York City. Purchase of the meters was negotiated through Siemens Building Technologies a building controls unit of Siemens.
