A good time was had by all, and over $300 was presented to Charleston Volunteers for Literacy. Executive Chef Matthew Neissner created a wonderful lunch of She Crab Soup, Wedge Salad with iceberg lettuce, smoked bacon, blue cheese & avocado and Roasted Prime Dry Aged NY Strip. The Ants Are Marching Down King Street

The Ants have begin their March Down King Street. In a tribute to Darkness to Light, artist Jeffrey Kennedy and the King Street Marketing Group present The Ants Go Marching Down King Street. The art show featuring Kennedy’s colorful, larger than life ant sculptures are now on display at Berlins Women, Mary Helen McCoy Fine Antiques, Alpha Dog Omega Cat, Kings Courtyard Hotel, Plum Elements and Lily.

Next the ants will march from Market to Calhoun August 8-14, Calhoun to Spring August 15-21, and then to the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood August 22-28.

Kennedy has supported Darkness to Light with his sculptures since their debut at Piccolo Spoleto in 2003, where D2L founder Ann Lee saw a connection between strong little ants who move mountains carrying one grain at a time, and the one-person-at-a-time awareness campaign for child sexual abuse.

The Ants range in size from that of a small dog to the size of a horse. At left is the smaller Ant at Alpha Dog Omega Cat and on the right is a really big Ant in the window of Plum Elements.

Celebrate "Plum Night" at the Terrace Theater

Plum Elements' is inviting their friends and Mayumi Oda fans to a special “Plum Night” showing of “Who Does She Think She Is?” a documentary profiling five artists, including Mayumi Oda, Thursday Feb. 19 at 7:45 p.m. in the Terrace Theater on Maybank Highway in Charleston.

Mayumi announced the film during her visit to King Street celebrating Plum Elements' first year anniversary.

This is a thought-provoking film that amplifies the issues facing women who create. The artists discuss the challenges they have faced and what choices they made to pursue their visual and performing art.

Mayumi has exhibited over 40 one-woman shows throughout the world. Her artwork is also part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, the Library of Congress and many others.
