February is a busy month here in Charleston, but then Charleston is always busy. It seems like every day I hear someone complain that an event they scheduled is on the same day as something else, equally as enticing. Choose well this month, King Street fans.
There’s a luncheon at Halls Chophouse February 10 where award-winning Executive Chef Matthew Niessner will serve three delicious courses to support the outreach programs of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE). You can win SEWE tickets and gifts from King Street favorites like Savannah Bee Company and Bottega Brandina. Go to letsdolunchincharleston.com for information.
2nd Sunday on King Street is always special, but
Local sports events and professional teams from Charleston will join us at 2nd Sunday. Sports events don’t get any more major than the 2012 PGA Championship teeing off at Kiawah this August. Look for the PGA tent where they will have the cherished Wannamaker Trophy on display plus a golf skill challenge on Society Street.
The Family Circle Cup will be there with information, tickets and merchandise. You can sign up for the Cooper River Bridge Run, see who will be playing in the ESPN Charleston Classic, and visit with the folks from the Charleston Battery, the Riverdogs, and the Stingrays. Add this to a vehicle-free King Street with the usual shopping, dining and fun, and 2nd Sunday is the best game in town. Download your parking vouchers at 2ndsundayonkingstreet.com and go.
The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition will be there too, reminding us that SEWE happens the following weekend. You’ll be able to purchase tickets, register to win tickets and hear all about the many SEWE activities planned for this year. Heads up, Valentine’s Day shoppers, think about how much your loved one would enjoy a three-day pass that includes every single chef demo at the Gaillard.
For the fourth year in a row, King Street celebrates SEWE with a Stroll. On Friday, February 17 ten stores invite you to meet ten celebrated SEWE artists from 5:00-8:00 PM. Enjoy wine and food, talk some art, shop and rub elbows with each other in a manner that only happens in the South. Join Rapport, Oxette, Bottega Brandina, Bits of Lace, Copper Penny, Roberto Coin, Hampden Clothing, Shooz, Savannah Bee Company and Reinert LePrince Gallery for this lovely annual event. It’s free, fun and public.
Happy a happy, busy February. See you on King Street.
