Jack Promoting Family Reading With the RiverDogs

Jack’s Cosmic Dogs is partnering with The Charleston RiverDogs to promote family reading. Saturday, August 29, Jack Hurley of Jack’s Cosmic Dogs will give children’s books with Read-A-long CDs to the first 225 families at the game. The books were generously donated by Weekly Reader Publishing, award-winning publishers of children's magazines since 1902.

“As kids are heading back to school it is so important for parents to take time to read to their children every day”, Hurley said.  “We are honored that Weekly Reader has partnered with us to support family fun with the RiverDogs.”

The RiverDogs’ game is at 7:05 PM versus Augusta. Gates open at 6:00 PM so get there early to receive your free book and CD.

Jack’s Cosmic Dogs is located on Hwy 17 North in Mt. Pleasant. Jack Hurley has been supporting local schools and community events since 1999. Weekly Reader publishes twelve educational magazines for students in grades pre-K to 12 and annually reaches an audience of almost 8 million educators, students and their parents.

 

Buckeyes Beat South Carolina in Hot Dog Toss

In the second annual "Go Back to Ohio Night" with the Charleston Riverdogs at Joe Riley Stadium, it was the Buckeyes who finally got the best of a Southeastern Conference team by defeating USC in Jack's Cosmic Dog "Hot Dog Toss."

The Buckeye Hot Dog Tossers managed to put three straight dogs in the bun while the Gamecocks could only mustard one dog in the bun. It was a fun night at The Joe with the scoreboard video showing most of the great Ohio losses of the Browns, Bengals, Indians and Reds, plus the defeats that Ohio State suffered at the hands of Lou Holtz' teams.

The Ants Are Marching Down King Street

The Ants have begin their March Down King Street. In a tribute to Darkness to Light, artist Jeffrey Kennedy and the King Street Marketing Group present The Ants Go Marching Down King Street. The art show featuring Kennedy’s colorful, larger than life ant sculptures are now on display at Berlins Women, Mary Helen McCoy Fine Antiques, Alpha Dog Omega Cat, Kings Courtyard Hotel, Plum Elements and Lily.

Next the ants will march from Market to Calhoun August 8-14, Calhoun to Spring August 15-21, and then to the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood August 22-28.

Kennedy has supported Darkness to Light with his sculptures since their debut at Piccolo Spoleto in 2003, where D2L founder Ann Lee saw a connection between strong little ants who move mountains carrying one grain at a time, and the one-person-at-a-time awareness campaign for child sexual abuse.

The Ants range in size from that of a small dog to the size of a horse. At left is the smaller Ant at Alpha Dog Omega Cat and on the right is a really big Ant in the window of Plum Elements.
