For 15 years it has been a New Year’s Day tradition to put on a crazy outfit, have a few beers at Dunleavy’s Pub on Sullivan’s Island and head for the Atlantic Ocean for a quick dip or the Polar Plunge.
This year more than 4,000 people crowded the streets and Dunleavy’s Pub, including Jack Hurley pictured at the right, posing in his $3 European tailored suit with his cronies from the Pub.
The New Year’s Day dip, tagged “Freezin’ for a Reason,” isn’t just about being silly but being serious as the event raises some serious money for the South Carolina Special Olympics.
According to Jamie Maher, a major partner in Dunleavy’s, this year’s Plunge will raise more than $20,000 for Special Olympics. A great start to the New Year.
