The CHEC meeting at Southend Brewery and Smokehouse July 26 was a great event with a nice crowd, good food and fun raffle prizes from Tristan, Quality Inn and Suites Patriots Point, Seeking Indigo, Christina's Euphorium, Charlestowne Hotels, Charleston Harbor Tours, Holiday Inn Folly Beach, Gilligan's, Costco and Absolutely Charleston.
Representatives from our adopted charity, Darkness to Light, spoke about their upcoming Awareness Month, which will include events like Pedal for Prevention, The Ants go Marching Down King Street... and Broad, special luncheons at Halls Chophouse and training sessions around the area.

This month's CHEC meeting is in the Cooper River Room at the wonderful new Mount Pleasant Visitor Center, the only one of its kind on the East
coast. The Visitor Center, which opened July 3rd, boasts a fishing pier that is the longest in the state and stretches 1,250
feet over the Cooper River in the shadow of the famed Arthur Ravenel,
Jr. Bridge. A snack and tackle shop are open to welcome those wanting a
bite to eat or looking to catch the big one. Additional park features
include a waterfront playground for children, ample restroom
facilities, convenient parking options, a kayak launching area, an
amphitheater that overlooks the river and Charleston skyline, the
Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion and the Cooper River Room, which is
available for private parties and receptions. The nine-acre property will be open to the public year-round from
6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. A War Memorial is prominently displayed on the
premises.

circa 1825, is one of the grandest and most beautiful houses in Charleston. It is of tremendous architectural importance, with
exceptional ornamentation plasterwork and a free-flying
staircase, a spacious piazza and beautiful traditional gardens.
Lunch, which begins at 11:30 is $15.00 for members and $20.00 for non-members. You get a free raffle ticket for bringing a donation to our charity du jour, the Charleston Animal Society.
