A good time was had by all, and over $300 was presented to Charleston Volunteers for Literacy. Executive Chef Matthew Neissner created a wonderful lunch of She Crab Soup, Wedge Salad with iceberg lettuce, smoked bacon, blue cheese & avocado and Roasted Prime Dry Aged NY Strip. It was excellent! Thanks again, everyone, for supporting Charleston Volunteers for Literacy, King Street and Charleston Peninsula businesses and Halls Chophouse. Halls Chophouse Celebrates Successful First Year

The Hall family celebrated their first year in business as the family proprietors of Halls Chophouse, Charleston's newest steak house in the in the Upper King Design District.

Jeanne and Bill Hall, Sr. brought 40 years experience operating hotels and restaurants in Pinehurst, NC, Hilton Head Island, SC, Napa Valley and Pebble Beach, CA. Bill also managed outposts of the Ritz-Carlton Hotels and the Cloister Resort & Beach Club in Sea Island, GA. 

Tommy Hall has spent over ten years in the restaurant business. He joins the team after six years as General Manager with Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in Dallas. Billy Hall has worked around hotels and restaurants throughout his life. He joins the family after 12 years working with Major League Baseball, Major College Football and the National Football League.

Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in the Upper King Design District in historic downtown Charleston.

Shine's Jackson Holland will be a Featured Bartender at Bubbles and Sweets Saturday, March 6 from 9:00 PM to midnight in the Main Tent at Marion Square in the BB&T Wine + Food Festival.

Bubbles & Sweets… with a Twist, sponsored by The Art Institute of Charleston and Charleston Magazine is the party everyone with a sweet-tooth will adore. The Shine brunch was a huge success Sunday for an opening day. It was WONDERFUL! Bloody Mary bar, bottomless Mimosas, and the new Barista was making awesome specialty coffees, 80’s DJ spinning live music, and of course the WONDERFUL food.

Cupcake is now doing a promotion called "CUPCAKE POWER HOURS." Each week they have a surprise Power Hour that is announced on Facebook and Twitter. Make sure you sign up to follow Cupcake on both of these social media sites for big discounts on cupcakes, free cupcakes, free tokens, etc. Last week Cupcake did 1/2 price dozens for an hour. Halls Chophouse will host a Gourmet Wild Game Dinner to kick of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston. Enjoy a delicious and unique meal with wine pairings in the Lamond Room, Halls’ private upstairs dining room, Wednesday, February 10 at 7:30 PM. Cost: $115/person

Arepas and Sweet Local Shrimp at Shine

Shine Restaurant's  now legendary Arepas. A traditional South American street food, the shell made with corn instead of wheat. They play a major role in the cuisine of many nations including Colombia, and Venezuela. This fine specimen is pulled pork with saffrito (a traditional Spanish cooking sauce with garlic, vegetables and olive oil), black bean, avocado, cheese and cilantro. It's fresh, delicious and complex in a very enticing way. Try it with a Guatemala Bahia Lager, semi-sweet malt with a honest backbone of hops. Mmmmm.

With it, Chinese Shrimp Cocktail with Chili Garlic Sauce. As sweet and tart as it is beautiful. Try it with Thailand Singha Light Lager, whose taste is soft, bready and a bit sweet. Perfect.

Halloween at Fish Restaurant It's Predator and Prey

News from Fish Restaurant: Executive Chef Nico Romo and Chef de Cuisine Charron Henry have created a 3-course menu based on the natural cycle of marine vegetation, dubbing their creation Predator and Prey. Each course will be created as a duo, honoring the themed pair in a delicious presentation. Think crab and shrimp, triggerfish and squid. Predator and Prey will be served Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31st. The three course feast will be just $35. Fish Restaurant is located at 442 King Street in the Upper King Design District. Park in the Visitor Center deck on Ann Street between King and Meeting--just $2.00 for the whole evening after 5:00 pm.
