2010's Most Drool Worthy Thespian: Hedwig and the Angry Inch Piccolo Spoleto Is Back!

Dubbed a “scandalous night at the theatre” by Charleston City Paper, Hedwig and The Angry Inch returns for a triumphant Piccolo Spoleto 2011 run with Brian Porter (named Charleston's 'Most Drool-worthy Thespian' in City Paper's Best of 2010 issue) reprising his role as Hedwig, everyone's favorite transgendered, washed up rock n roll queen.  

Joining the cast this summer is Charleston stage favorite Beth Curley (The 39 Steps, Bad Dates) as sidekick/roadie Yitzhak and of course The Angry Inch band led by What If? Music Director Alex Hennessey, also personal accompanist to Broadway legend Patti LuPone. The show is again directed by What If? Artistic Director Kyle Barnette (Bash, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).

Sex, drugs, rock n roll and a full cash bar will all be part of the fun at the glorious ballroom of The American Theatre where Hedwig and crew guarantee to shake the walls and stir your soul with one of contemporary theatre's most unique offerings. This is the show Piccolo Spoleto attendees will be talking about the next day and the day after that....and the day after that. Don't be left out to dry at the watercooler!

Spoleto Festival Box Office Kiosk Opens April 18

The annual Festival box office opening for this year's Spoleto season is almost here! On Monday, April 18th, the festival box office kiosk opens in the lobby of Gaillard Auditorium at 77 Calhoun Street. December Second Sunday on King Street, Lights, Presents, Shows, Holidays!

King Street is turning into the place everyone wants to be on the Second Sunday of every month, but even more so in December as all the holiday windows are up, Marion Square is festively lit and all of King Street turns into the region's holiday hub. There's even a rumor that a very special flash mob is in the planning for this month's launch. Stay tuned!

The Charleston Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker is at the Gaillard at 3:00 pm. The Threshold Repertory Theatre presents Every Christmas Story Every Told (and then some!) at The Meminger at 2:30. The Preservation Society's Book Signing Series moved to Second Sunday this year. The event features a group of distinguished local authors whose works encompass a wide variety of topics related to Charleston. Mercury editor Charles Waring will be there to sign copies of the newly released third edition of "The Way It Was in Charleston" by Laura Witte Waring, for which he wrote the preface.

A good time was had by all, and over $300 was presented to Charleston Volunteers for Literacy. Executive Chef Matthew Neissner created a wonderful lunch of She Crab Soup, Wedge Salad with iceberg lettuce, smoked bacon, blue cheese & avocado and Roasted Prime Dry Aged NY Strip. The Unofficial Creekside Band to Rock at Eye Level Art

The Unofficial Creekside Band, a bluesy soulful, funked up rockin roller coaster will perform their musical magic at Eye Level Art April 16 from 7:00 to 11:00 PM. Eye Level Art is at 103 Spring Street in the Cannonbourough - Elliotbourough area just off Upper King.

The Unofficial Creekside Band is influenced by talents like Marvin Gaye, The Police, Pure Prairie League, The Temptations and The Rolling Stones. Made up of four local musicians: Steve Luisi from the King Street Kitchen Company (photo at right) on the lead guitar, bass and drums; Jay White with his acoustic electric, drums, and trombone; Johnny Weeks on the acoustic electric, drums and Barry Lester playing bass, lead guitar, and mandolin. The band performs both original material and covers of favorite classics.

Join Eye Level Art for an evening of bluesy, soulful rockin' roller fun! Doors open at 7:00 and The Unofficial Creekside Band starts at 7:45 PM.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Student Tickets are $5 and must be purchased directly from the gallery. Student Tickets may be purchased no later than one hour before doors.

Maddison Row Part of the Cinderella Project

Maddison Row,the chic bridal boutique at 171 Spring Street, is helping lowcountry teen girls find that perfect prom dress at no cost in the 10th Annual Cinderella Project March 13 and 20 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, just across from Marion Square.

The Outreach Learning Center at St. Matthew's and the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar are pleased to present to the Lowcountry the Tenth Annual Cinderella Project. The Cinderella Project is a national project dedicated to building self-esteem in teenage girls by providing them with a beautiful formal dress for their special occasion. The Cinderella Project lets teenage girls be the belle of the ball.

Teenage girls from South Carolina Junior High and High Schools are invited to visit the “boutique” to find that “perfect dress” for a special occasion in their lives. Assistants will be on hand to help in the process and to match accessories. Food, music and door prizes make this a lively, fun event.

In addition to Maddison Row Bridal Chic, Bella Bridesmaid, Communities in Schools, Charleston School of Law, Ashley Hall School and the MUSC School of Pharmacy are all contributing their time, effort and expertise.

You can help too. Drop off any formal dresses, jewelry, wraps, purses, disposable cameras and door prizes. King Street Kitchen Company Hosts Rue de Jean Executive Chef Jason Murphy for Monthly Chef's Demo

Each month The King Street Kitchen Company hosts local chefs to demonstrate their specialty in a fun, interactive and informative way. KSKC Chef's Demos are held every third Wednesday in their beautiful kitchen showroom. All proceeds benefit Louie's Kids.

Jason Murphy, Executive Chef of Holy City Hospitality, began his culinary training in the Columbus, Ohio State Culinary Program. He trained for 3 1/2 years at the "Refectory", Columbus' only four star French Restaurant. He moved to Charleston to diversify his experience and to study at Johnson and Wales University. In 2002, he joined 39 Rue de Jean and was quickly promoted to Executive Chef. Murphy oversees the Culinary operations of Holy City Hospitality's three restaurants.
