Maddison Row Part of the Cinderella Project

Maddison Row,the chic bridal boutique at 171 Spring Street, is helping lowcountry teen girls find that perfect prom dress at no cost in the 10th Annual Cinderella Project March 13 and 20 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, just across from Marion Square.

The Outreach Learning Center at St. Matthew's and the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar are pleased to present to the Lowcountry the Tenth Annual Cinderella Project. The Cinderella Project is a national project dedicated to building self-esteem in teenage girls by providing them with a beautiful formal dress for their special occasion. The Cinderella Project lets teenage girls be the belle of the ball.

Teenage girls from South Carolina Junior High and High Schools are invited to visit the “boutique” to find that “perfect dress” for a special occasion in their lives. Assistants will be on hand to help in the process and to match accessories. Food, music and door prizes make this a lively, fun event.

In addition to Maddison Row Bridal Chic, Bella Bridesmaid, Communities in Schools, Charleston School of Law, Ashley Hall School and the MUSC School of Pharmacy are all contributing their time, effort and expertise.

You can help too. Drop off any formal dresses, jewelry, wraps, purses, disposable cameras and door prizes. Shine's Jackson Holland Featured Bartender at Bubbles and Sweets

Shine's Jackson Holland will be a Featured Bartender at Bubbles and Sweets Saturday, March 6 from 9:00 PM to midnight in the Main Tent at Marion Square in the BB&T Wine + Food Festival.

Bubbles & Sweets… with a Twist, sponsored by The Art Institute of Charleston and Charleston Magazine is the party everyone with a sweet-tooth will adore. This soiree is sure to be the hottest of the weekend with oasis of delightful confections created by top local and celebrated pastry chefs, sparkling and dessert wines, cordials an—new to the event—guest bartenders, including  Shine's Jackson Holland pouring signature cocktail creations.

Food Writers Matt and Ted Lee at Blue Bicycle Books for Book Signing and King Street Peanut Boil

Blue Bicycle Books welcomes renowned food writers Matt and Ted Lee, signing copies of The Lee Bros. Simple Fresh Southern, Sunday March 7 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. The local boys-made-good will close out the weekend of the BB&T Wine + Food Festival with a sidewalk peanut boil on King Street.

Jonathan Sanchez first met Matt and Ted when they were fresh out of college running their mail-order business out of an office in the Confederate Home. Fifteen years later they are still selling boiled peanuts, Duke’s Mayonnaise and Piggly Wiggly t-shirts to exiled Southerners everywhere. They are also now frequent contributors to the New York Times dining section and have won two James Beard awards for The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook. NPR's Linda Wertheimer will be hosting a discussion with Matt and Ted at the Smithsonian on April 6th.

Their second book explores recipes that indulge in the flavors of the Deep South through healthy and everyday ingredients. More than 100 accessible recipes add their own twist of sophistication: cherry tomato and soybean salad, easy ambrosia, caesar salad with catfish “croutons,” to name a few. Simple Fresh Southern also offers instructions on a variety of techniques, ranging from smoking to cheesemaking.

Gallery Chuma Favs Big Part of Gullah Tribute Luncheon

Some of Gallery Chuma's favorite personalities and chefs will be part of The Gullah Tribute Luncheon Friday from noon to 2:00 PM in the main tent at Marion Square as part of the BB&T Wine+Food Festival. As the leading gallery featuring Gullah Art, it is only fitting that Gallery Chuma's featured artist, Jonathan Green, is part of the Gullah tribute. 

Green is considered one of the most important painters of the Southern experience and one of the most preeminent artists capturing the traditions of African American culture.

 And if you have ever been to one of the many special events at Gallery Chuma, including the John Street Jazz Series, you will recognize the food in Marion Square as none other than the delights of Charlotte Jenkins of Gullah Cuisine in Mt. Pleasant. No one does Gullah food any better.
