2013 Charleston Farmers Market Opens Saturday

This Saturday, April 13th kicks off the 2013 Season for the Charleston Farmers Market! Since 1989, the Charleston Farmers Market has supported and featured Lowcountry farmers and growers, artisans, food  vendors, live music, and more! 

Stop by Marion Square at the corner of King & Calhoun Streets and load up on Lowcountry seasonal produce & more. Admission is free. The Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 8:00am - 2:00pm and runs April 13-December 21, 2013.

*Open on select Sundays from 9:00am - 3:00pm during Piccolo Spoleto Festival (May 26, June 2 & 9) and Holiday Magic (December 1, 8 & 15).

Fashion Production Students Create Bags For Benefit

Event and Fashion Production students from The Art Institute of Charleston will be hosting a silent auction event, Bags for Benefit, on September 12th at Wasabi. This charity event features artistic bags created by the faculty and students with proceeds from the auction benefiting Lowcountry AIDS Services.

Special $10 Food Tickets will be sold at the event. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Lowcountry AIDS Services. “Manifesting Memory: Plantation Legacies of the South” Opens May 17 at the Art Institute of Charleston

 The Art Institute of Charleston will showcase its latest gallery exhibit, “Manifesting Memory: Plantation Legacies of the South,” from May 17 through July 23.

Inspired by the connection of the Southern psyche to the plantation, this invitational exhibition explores ideas about land, legacy, and identity in the 21st century. An opening reception will take place on May 17 from 5:30 pm - 7 pm; light refreshments will be served. The public is invited to the reception and exhibit at no charge.

Eight contemporary artists are contributing to the visual conversation of “Manifesting Memory,” including Art Institute of Charleston faculty members DH Cooper, Mary Johnson, Kim McHenry-Williams, Lynne Riding, and Jonell Pulliam, as well as three other artists – Colin Quashie, Michaela Pilar Brown, and Juan Logan.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 am – 7 pm; Friday, 9 am – 4 pm; Saturday, 9 am – 2 pm. For more information, click here.
